Former Penn State football coach and alleged child molester Jerry Sandusky waived his right to a preliminary hearing today, ensuring the case will go to trial.
"We are not in any way conceding guilt," said Sandusky's lawyer, Joe Amendola. He added that the decision to avoid a hearing was a "tactical measure." The case will now head to trial, and Sandusky's accusers will have the chance to testify against him, but not for several months.
By pleading not guilty and waiving today's hearing, Sandusky has postponed the inevitable shocking testimony. The accusers will now have to wait until 2012 for their day in court, at which time they will recount their allegations in front of a jury. Many feel that if they had their chance to testify today, it would have removed any doubt that Sandusky is guilty. "It would have been apparent from watching those boys and their demeanor that they were telling the truth," said an attorney for one of the victims.
