Batman, played by Christian Bale, fights Bane in the filming of “The Dark Knight Rises” at Wall Street last month. Eager audiences can get a sneak preview of next summer’s blockbustet at IMAX theaters on Friday.

Next summer, the Dark Knight will rise in IMAX — and audiences can get a glimpse of him on Friday.
The six-minute prologue to next summer’s epic Batman drama “The Dark Knight Rises” was unveiled in New York Monday, prior to the clip’s exclusive showing at IMAX theaters beginning this weekend.
It’s the same tactic director Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. studios used with 2008’s “The Dark Knight.” That clip gave fans the first glimpse of Heath Ledger’s Joker, while the new one introduces the film’s main villain, Bane (Tom Hardy) — a musclebound thug who breathes a strength-enhancing drug through a gas mask-like apparatus.
In the footage shown at Lincoln Square 13 on the upper West Side, the IMAX impact really kicked in after a quick montage of Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) eulogizing Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart in the previous film).
In a thrilling sequence set on a plane, Bane and his henchmen turn the tables on CIA agents and appear to get something valuable back — we’re not told what — during a prisoner exchange.
Then the plane tilts as it plummets and a vertiginous fight breaks out. Additional footage shows Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle, in full Catwoman regalia; Bane in a long coat atop a Gotham City staircase, preparing for battle; what looks to be a flying version of the Batmobile; and a scene of Bane walking away with the busted cowl of Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) — in a possible allusion to a DC Comics storyline from the early ’90s, when Bane notoriously broke Batman’s back.
The movie has recently been filming in New York, around Zuccotti Park and Wall Street.
Nolan commented that his love of 70mm IMAX technology “recaptures that feeling from childhood of being immersed in a film. It gives me as a filmmaker a chance to be where I want to be.”
The movie is set to be released July 20.
